Although he considers himself a true featherweight, Armenta, who fights at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel this Friday night [Sept. 16th]against undefeated lightweight Guy Robb (5-0-0, 2 KOs) has stepped into the ring as high as 136lbs. “I fought at the higher weights because the original opponents pulled out for whatever reasons; I could drop down to 128lbs, my first fight was at 127lbs. Usually fighting at 130lbs I feel good; I walk around at 135lbs-136lbs so dropping down in weight I steel feel strong because I don’t have to struggle.”
Armenta, who is not known for devastating punching-power has been focusing on adding that knockout power to his artillery, “Actually in some of the fights that I’ve had, some of the opponents I’ve knocked down but they got back up. I think I do need to step it up a little bit more on my power, get my power behind my punches. That’s one thing we’ve been working on and they’re going to notice on Friday night and the rest of my fights.”
Pablo Armenta and his team of longtime trainer Max Gutierrez, manager David Gutierrez, and veteran cut-man/mitt-man Juan Medina have all have been together since the amateurs creating a level of familiarity no longer see as often as before. With one fight in 2009, four fights in 2010, and three fights in 2011 that team has kept Pablo busy as a professional, further blossoming his young promising career. “We’re trying to stay busy. We’ve been trying to get more fights, at least four or five per year. If everything goes good with this fight on Friday night I’ll be ready to step back into the ring hopefully within a month or two, whatever the promoters or my managers get me.”
The hardworking blue-collar prospect who moonlights part-time at a local sporting goods store [Big 5] and manages to still attend community college has big dreams for his professional career, “Have a championship belt and be able to defend it for at least three or four years. I hope to be a wealthy fighter and invest my money good, have a great record and hopefully the fans like my style and boxing skills.”
